Care recruitment never stops. Neither does screening.
Care providers hire all year round, and many of the best carers have little formal experience and a thin CV. BeCareers talks to every applicant about the things that matter - shifts, travel, checks and why they want to care - so good people aren't lost in the pile.
Why first-stage screening breaks in care
Always hiring
Staff turnover means the same roles are advertised again and again, and the phone screening never ends.
Values matter more than CVs
Some of the best carers are career changers or returners. A keyword filter drops them; a conversation finds them.
Applicants apply after shifts
People apply in the evening and at weekends. By the time someone calls back on Monday, they have taken another job.
A multilingual workforce
Many capable care workers are more confident in their first language. An English-only phone screen loses them.
What a screen looks like for care roles
Every applicant gets a short conversation about the must-haves you set. You get the result:
- Every applicant invited to screen as soon as they apply, day or night
- A transcript and summary for each, against your must-haves
- Side-by-side comparison, shared with your team and exported to your ATS
- Your team's time back for interviews, not first-stage calls
- ShiftsEarly, late, most weekends (Met)
- Driving licenceYes (Met)
- Car, business insuranceYes (Met)
Two years in home care. Available for early and late shifts and most weekends, with a driving licence and a car insured for business use.

What you could screen every applicant for
You set the criteria for each role. For care roles, employers typically include:
- Availability for early, late, waking-night and weekend shifts
- A full driving licence valid in the UK, and access to a car (domiciliary care)
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check
- Care Certificate, NVQ/QCF or Level 2/3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (if you need it)
- Why they want to work in care, and how they would handle a common scenario
The AI reads each CV against these, asks follow-up questions wherever the CV doesn't answer them, and gives you a transcript and summary. See how it works.
Good practice
Keep questions about health or disability out of first-stage screening. Section 60 of the Equality Act 2010 restricts health questions before a job offer, apart from narrow exceptions. See our guide to AI screening and UK law.
